Lead Software Engineer at Value Chain Factory

Aug 2023 - Oct 2025 | Nairobi, Kenya

  • As a solo full-stack engineer, I used Laravel, PHP, and VueJS to successfully customize and deliver on a SaaS ERP software built on legacy code that a big client had rejected, into a high-performance and intuitive software that the client accepted, a role that demanded a solid understanding of back-end and front-end systems and optimizations. The ERP software currently powers operations for 5 of the largest distributors in the country, supporting millions of daily transactions.
  • As one of the most senior engineers, I oversaw all payment integrations for our clients, a role that required a solid understanding of system design, security practices, and effective teamwork. I collaborated with IT teams at top banks and mobile money providers to successfully develop and integrate automated payments, bulk disbursements, and last-shilling reconciliation. I successfully managed over 70 payment bills and bank accounts integrations.
  • As a lead software engineer and project lead, I successfully led Know Your Customer (KYC) exercises with prospective clients, a role that demanded top-notch customer management skills. I listened to clients, asked questions, and documented their operations and technical requirements, which resulted in a smooth onboarding process for the clients.
  • As the lead software engineer, I led and mentored junior, mid-level, and senior developers, some of whom went on to become project leads in various departments.

  • As part of an innovative and distributed development team, I utilized Python, Angular, and MongoDB to successfully resolve bugs and develop new features for the BOTS administration portal. This enabled the company to gain 100% visibility into all its trading activities, products, and operations, allowing it to make informed decisions based on this data.
  • I successfully and significantly reduced page load times for BOTS's slow pages, a goal that demanded a solid understanding of both back-end and front-end optimizations. This resulted in smooth user experiences and enhanced staff efficiency.

  • I successfully utilized Python, Flask, and Vue.js to develop and maintain the company's administration portal. This enabled the company to gain 100% visibility into all its client activities and operations, allowing it to make informed decisions based on this data.
  • I successfully used data to understand and predict high water consumption points, a task that required a solid understanding of machine learning and Data Analytics, ensuring clients optimized their water usage and reduced their water bills by up to 20%. This, in turn, led to increased sales for our company.
